According to the Herald-Tribune, a registered nurse working in the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center’s emergency room was fired and arrest for using patients’ credit card information.
While investigating separate fraudulent credit card cases, detectives determined the victims’ information had been stolen while receiving treatment at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center’s emergency room, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives identified Leslie McHugh, a registered nurse, as a suspect.
McHugh allegedly used patient credit card information to make online orders, which were shipped to her apartment, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives executed a search warrant Wednesday at her home, in the 8200 block of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. They found one of the fraudulently obtained items and a handwritten ledger listing personal information and credit card numbers for approximately 20 former patients, according to the sheriff’s office.
McHugh is charged with criminal use of personal information and fraudulent use of a credit card.
She has been fired from the hospital.
According to information pertaining to her arrest, McHugh stole at least two patient’s credit card information from their clothing when the patients were being X-rayed in another area of the hospital.
